Biography
He was born on May 1, 1916 in the village of Sennoye , now Bogodukhovsky district of Kharkov region , in a peasant family. He graduated from 7 classes. He studied at the Izyum medical college of the Kharkov region. In the Red Army since 1935. In 1938 he graduated from the Chuguev Military Aviation Pilot School. He participated in the campaign of the Red Army in Western Ukraine and Western Belarus in 1939 , the Soviet-Finnish War of 1939-1940.
He met the Great Patriotic War as a flight commander. He fought on the Leningrad and Voronezh fronts.
By December 1941, the commander of the squadron of the 153rd fighter aviation regiment ( 5th mixed aviation division , 23rd army , Leningrad front) Major N.F. Makarenko made 325 sorties, shot down 10 in 11 air battles and destroyed 2 on the ground enemy aircraft. In one of the battles he was seriously wounded.
On February 10, 1943, for the courage and military valor shown in battles with enemies, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
In 1950 he graduated with honors from the Air Force Engineering Academy named after N.E. Zhukovsky . In 1970, Colonel N.F. Makarenko went into reserve. He lived in the city of Shchelkovo, Moscow Region . He worked at an aircraft factory in Moscow .
He died on January 12, 1998. He was buried in the cemetery of the village of Leonikh .
