Bishop Jacob ( Bulgarian. Bishop Jacob , in the world Elijah Velikov Tasev ; born August 25, 1956 , the village of Koprivlen , Blagoevgrad Region ) - Bishop of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church at rest, Bishop of Mesemvria.
Biography
Born on August 25, 1956 in the village of Koprivlen near the city of Nevrokop .
Being married, on April 1, 1984 he was ordained a priest in Sofia . However, he soon divorced and was moved to the city of Samokov .
After the schism broke out in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in 1992, he joined the "alternative" Synod , became a monk, was elevated to the rank of archimandrite on August 14, 1997, and on October 19 of the same year he was ordained bishop and served in the Samokovskaya Mother of God Church captured by schismatics.
By the decision of the Pan-Orthodox Council, which was held in Sofia on September 30 - October 1, 1998, “by extreme condescension, ” he was accepted into canonical communion with the Bulgarian Church in the current rank, received the title of bishop of Mesemvria, and was appointed vicar of the Dorostol-Cherven diocese .
In 2001, upon the division of the Dorostol-Cherven diocese into the Dorostol and Roussen , he remained the last vicar.
On April 2, 2013, by the decision of the Holy Synod, he was relieved of his post as vicar of the Metropolis of Rosenia and, in accordance with the petition, was sent for obedience to the Bachkovo Monastery [1] .
On October 20, 2013, at a meeting of diocesan voters in Berlin, he was elected one of two candidates for the widowed Western Central European Metropolitanate (the other candidate was Bishop Anthony of Constantine (Mikhalev) ), but on October 27 of that year, with the secret ballot of the synodal metropolitans, he did not receive a single vote [2] .
On December 11, 2016, at the election of Metropolitan Starozagorsky, he also did not receive a single vote of the synodal metropolitans [3] .
