Magomed Shakhbanovich Omarov ( October 16, 1989 , Kizilyurt ) - Russian boxer of the heavyweight category, has been playing for the national team since 2009. Biography

Magomed Omarov was born on October 16, 1989 in Kizilyurt , Dagestan . In his childhood he was fond of basketball and freestyle wrestling, but ultimately made a choice in favor of boxing, at the age of fifteen he joined the Dynamo Makhachkala , where he trained under the guidance of R. Akhmedov. Later, he was a ward of the honored coach Z. G. Jafarov [1] .

Now Magomed Omarov lives in Kaspiysk , is studying at Dagestan State University . At the competition represents Dagestan and Tatarstan .

Sports career

Omarov achieved his first serious success in the ring in 2007, when he won the championship of the Southern Federal District. A year later, he repeated this achievement, in addition, he became the champion of the republic and won a bronze medal at the all-Russian Olympic Hopes competitions. In 2009, he made his debut at the adult championship of Russia and immediately took third place, in the next season he was again third.

In 2011, Omarov won the bronze of the Russian national championship for the third time, won the World Boxing Championship for the Oil Countries in memory of Farman Kurban oglu Salmanov and won the European Championship in Ankara, defeating Olympic champion Roberto Cammarella in the finals [2] .

After the first number of the national heavyweight champion Sergey Kuzmin unsuccessfully performed at the World Championships in Baku , Omarov temporarily became the team leader in this category and was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London . He planned to compete for medals here, in the first battle he confidently defeated the American Dominic Brizil , the future contender for the world heavyweight champion among professionals, but at the quarter-finals stage he lost to the Azerbaijani Magomedrasul Mejidov with a score of 14:17.

In 2012, he won the Russian championship for the first time, in a decisive match he got the better of his main rival Kuzmin. For participation in these competitions he was awarded the title of master of sports of international class.

In 2013, he won a gold medal at the Summer Universiade in Kazan [3] .

In July 2016, he participated in the final qualifying tournament held in Venezuela before the Olympic Games in Brazil and lost to the Ukrainian Rostislav Arkhipenko in the quarterfinals (who had already won the 2013 Universiade ), thereby failing to win a license to participate in the Olympics [4] .
