Biography

Born July 17, 1920 in the village of Big Uda [1] , in a peasant family. Mordvin by nationality. He graduated from 9 classes. He worked as an accountant in the Bolshemaresyevsky district committee of the Komsomol, as a teacher in elementary school.

In December 1940, he was drafted into the Red Army by the Bolshemaresyevsky District Military Commissariat. In June 1941, he was in a regimental school in Petrozavodsk . On the second day of World War II , having received an early military rank of sergeant, he was sent to the army as commander of the calculation of a 120-mm mortar. The entire battle path was part of the 340th Infantry Regiment of the 46th Infantry Division, first with a mortar, then with a calculation commander. He received baptism of fire in battle in the Pskov region. He participated in the defense of Leningrad and the breakthrough of the blockade.

March 31, 1944 when breaking through the enemy’s defense 11 km south-east of the village of Filatova Gora ( Pskov region , Pskov region ), the calculation of Sergeant Taraev (340th Infantry Regiment 46th Infantry Division, 67th Army , Leningrad Front ) suppressed gun fire and three machine guns, destroyed over the separation of enemy soldiers. By order of the commander of the 46th Infantry Division (No. 36 / n) dated April 30, 1944, Sergeant Taraev Sergey Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree.

In the summer of 1944, the regiment was transferred to the Karelian Isthmus. On June 14-15, 1944, in the battles east of the city of Vyborg, the calculation of Sergeant Taraev supported the advance of the rifle units and fired under extremely difficult conditions. The enemy was dealt a lot of damage in manpower and military equipment: the fire of four machine gun points, 2 37 mm guns and a 76 mm battery were suppressed, about 14 Nazis and a car were destroyed. He was presented for the award of the Order of the Red Star . There was no information in the award sheet about the awarding of the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree and the division commander the status of the award was changed. By order of the commander of the 46th Infantry Division (No. 54 / n) dated June 28, 1944, Sergeant Taraev Sergey Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree (awarded after the war).

On June 28-29, 1944, during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense in the area of ​​Lake Kerstilyan-Järvi (7 km north of the city of Vyborg now in the Leningrad Region) and forcing it, Sergeant Taraev with mortar shells hit 3 enemy firing points, an anti-tank gun and more than 20 marines. By order of the troops of the 21st Army (No. 189 / n) dated July 16, 1944, Sergeant Taraev Sergey Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.

After Finland came out of the war , the division was transferred to the 2nd Belorussian Front. Here the mortar Taraev participated in the liberation of Poland , again distinguished himself in battles during the Slavic-Elbing operation .

In mid-January 1945, during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense north of the city of Pultusk ( Masovian Voivodeship , Poland), Sergeant Tarayev clearly commanded the calculation under strong enemy fire. The fire of his mortar destroyed two cannons that were mounted on direct fire, one machine gun with the calculation, destroyed up to 20 m of trenches, suppressed the fire of two mortars, destroyed up to 20 Nazis. The regiment commander for these battles was presented for awarding the Order of the Red Star. There was no information on the awarding of the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree in the award sheet, and the status of the award was changed by the division commander. By order of the troops of the 2nd shock army (No. 10 / n) dated February 11, 1945, Senior Sergeant Taraev Sergey Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree (repeatedly).

As part of the regiment, he passed until victorious May 1945. Victory Day met on the island of Rugen in the Baltic Sea .

In 1945 he was demobilized. Being awarded the three Orders of Glory, he nevertheless was not a full gentleman.

He returned to his homeland. He worked as chief accountant on the collective farm. In 1963 he left for the Krasnoyarsk Territory , worked as a lumberjack of the Divnogorskles trust. In 1966, his family left for the construction of the Nurek hydroelectric station in Tajikistan , worked as a carpenter, foreman of carpenters.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 27, 1972, Sergey Stepanovich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree (No. 3198, in exchange for the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree of 02/11/1945) by way of re-award. He became the full holder of the Order of Glory.

After retiring in 1980, he continued to work as a carpenter at SMU Promgrazhdanstroy in the city of Ordzhonikidzebad . Later he lived in the capital of Tajikistan, Dushanbe . In 1991 he moved to the city of Novocheboksarsk ( Chuvashia ). Since 1997, Sergey Stepanovich Taraev has lived in the city of Volgograd . Died March 3, 1999 . He was buried at the Motornoe cemetery in the Dzerzhinsky district of the city ​​of Volgograd.
