Nakhichevan culture

Nakhichevan culture - the archaeological culture of the II millennium BC. er on the territory of the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic ( Azerbaijan ). As early as 1895 and in 1926, a burial ground with burials of the type of stone boxes containing original painted ceramics was discovered in the Kyzylvank area. Later, on the territory of the Nakhichevan ASSR , the monuments of Kultepe I , Kultepe II and others, which most fully characterize the Nakhichevan archaeological culture, were revealed and studied [1] .

As early as the Middle Bronze Age, large fortified settlements with a developed culture appeared on the territory of the Nakhichevan region. These include Kultepe II, Oglankala, Galajyg, Chalkhankala, Gyavurkala (Shakhtakhty), Vaihyr-Gyavurkala. Burials - soil, stone boxes and mounds [1] .

The main sectors of the economy were agriculture, cattle breeding, mining, and craft. Found a lot of tools associated with these sectors of the economy. Nakhichevan culture is very rich in monochrome and polychrome painted ceramic vessels that have peculiar forms. Of interest are jugs with a handle and "kettles" [1] .

Plow farming dominated agriculture. The main arable tool was ralo. Along with the compound sickles, in the process of harvesting were used and bronze. Often during the excavations there were stone grain graters, gaffers, mortars. Viticulture and winemaking occupied a certain place on the farm. In cattle breeding, sheep breeding has received particular development.

Many branches of the craft have reached a high level: metalworking, pottery, weaving and others. Property inequality was developed among the population of this culture [1] .
