Biography
Rene Sparenberg was born on August 3, 1918 in the city of Semarang in the north of Java on the Dutch East Indies.
From childhood, he became interested in summer hockey . He showed himself to be a gifted player and at the age of 17 he got into the national team. In 1936, he participated in the Summer Olympic Games in Berlin , in which the Netherlands team took third place [1] . The further development of his sports career was prevented by World War II .
Subsequently, he moved to Florida there and died in the summer of 2013 at the age of 94 [2] .
Interesting Facts
- For a long time, he remained with his hockey team- mate Hans Schnitger the only survivors of the Netherlands Summer Olympic Games in Berlin. After his death, Rene Sparenberg was the sole leader in this category until his death.
