Folk and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia and Thrace (Greek Λαογραφικό και Εθνολογικό Μουσείο Μακεδονίας-Θράκης) is a museum in Thessaloniki , Central Macedonia , Greece .
Museum
The museum was founded in 1973 by the "Macedonian Education Association" [1] and is located in a building known as the 'Old Provincial House'. The building was built in 1906 by Jewish architect Eli Modiano [2] on 5 hectares on the seashore. The museum is on four levels, with a semi-basement, two floors and an attic. Architecturally, it is an eclectic structure, under the strong influence of Modern . Particularly impressive is a double loggia with sea views.
The museum collects and explores the relics of the traditional culture of Macedonia and Thrace and presents them to the public at its permanent and temporary exhibitions. The museum's collection consists of more than 20,000 exhibits (fabrics, embroideries, local costumes, tools, weapons, household items, musical instruments and wood carvings, woodworking and metalworking equipment). The museum has a specialized library, a photographic archive and a music library [3] [4] [5] . Among the permanent exhibitions, two are organized in the following unities [6] :
