Ahmed Rashid ( Urdu احمد رشید ; born 1948 Rawalpindi ) is a Pakistani journalist, writer and civil activist , author of many books on Afghanistan , Pakistan and Central Asia .

Biography
He graduated from Malvern College, Lahore State College and Fitzville College of Cambridge. After graduation, he spent about ten years in the mountains of Balochistan (Western Pakistan), where he tried to organize an uprising against the military dictatorship Ayyub Khan and Yahya Khan . After the defeat, he began to write about his homeland. [one]
For over twenty years he has been a correspondent for the Daily Telegraph and the Far Eastern Economic Review in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Central Asia. He is currently writing for the Wall Street Journal , The Nation , Daily Times (Pakistan) and in scientific journals. Appears regularly on CNN and BBC World . Known as a critic of the Bush administration over the Iraq war and neglect of the Taliban problem. In 2000, he published the book The Taliban: Militant Islam, Oil and Fundamentalism in Central Asia, which became a bestseller for five weeks and has been translated into 22 languages with a total circulation of more than 1.5 million copies since September 11, 2001. He lives in Lahore , Punjdab, Pakistan with his wife and two children.
He shares the views of the Revolutionary Association of Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) on the situation of women in modern Afghanistan. [2]
