It was founded in 1997 by Pauline Hanson, David Alfrid and David Attridge. In the 1997 local elections, the party gained more than 22% of the vote and won 11 of 89 seats in the unicameral Queensland Legislative Chamber. In the same year, “One Nation” won 9% of the vote in federal elections. This was the best result of the party in the entire history of its existence. In the next election, the party could not come close to its original results.
