Biography
He was born on December 9, 1924 in the village of Pesochnoe , a working village on the steep Volga coast, famous for its china factory . After graduation, he worked as a locksmith in this factory. In September 1942 he was drafted into the army and sent to the Pushkin Tank School , which took about a year to study. Since September 1943 he has been participating in hostilities. He served as commander of a tank platoon. In battles he proved himself a skilled and competent officer. In one of the battles during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense, he personally destroyed 2 tanks, 2 armored personnel carriers, 3 guns, more than 150 soldiers and officers. The award documents noted his ability to maneuver on the battlefield, to achieve an advantage with the numerical superiority of the enemy.
He received the title of Hero for an operation in Poland in the summer of 1944 to clear a road near the village of Rudavka-Rymanowska (east of the city of Duklja ). The progress of our troops was hindered by a very swampy river, and the only road with two mined bridges was blocked by damaged tanks. The platoon was tasked with clearing the way. The operation was carried out at night, but the enemy opened fire on the noise of tanks. Tankers pulled lined tanks with ropes. Under the fire of the enemy, the lieutenant personally fastened the cables in damaged vehicles. He was wounded in the leg, but did not leave the battle until all the tanks were dropped from the road. Then he, despite his wound, crawled to the bridges and dropped mines from them. When he crawled to the tanks, the forces left him, and the soldiers brought him into the tank in his arms. Only after that he reported on the completion of the mission, the tank brigade crossed the river along the freed road and broke into the enemy’s position.
On February 19, 1945, Lieutenant N. D. Fursov was killed by a German submachine gunner. He was buried in Poland, in the city of Olawa .
