Biography
Born December 15, 1897 in the village of Kozlovichi (now the Brest region of the Brest region of Belarus ) in the family of a poor peasant. In 1908 he graduated from a parish school in his native village. In November 1916, Gil was called up to serve in the tsarist army, was an ordinary soldier of the 152nd Infantry Regiment [1] .
Since June 1918 - in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the Civil War on the Eastern, Southern and South-Western Fronts. In 1921, Gil graduated from the 3rd Infantry School in Smolensk . He took part in the suppression of the Kronstadt uprising, being a cadet of the 2nd regiment of a separate combined brigade of cadets. March 17, 1921 was slightly injured. For the difference in those battles, he was awarded the highest award at that time - the Order of the Red Banner of the RSFSR [1] .
He served in the border troops, commanded a platoon, then became the head of the frontier post. In 1927, Gil graduated from the Higher Border School in Moscow , after which he continued his service, was an assistant commissioner, commissioner, assistant commandant for the secret operational part [1] .
From the first days of World War II - on its fronts. He took part in the battles on the Leningrad , Western , Volkhov , 2nd Baltic , 1st Belorussian fronts. He served in various staff positions. Participated in battles on the Karelian Isthmus , on August 8, 1941 was slightly wounded. Later he took part in the battles for the liberation of the Baltic states, participated in the planning of the breakthrough of the German defense on the Väike River in the Estonian SSR [1] .
After the war ended, Gil continued to serve in the Soviet Army, until 1949 he served as part of the Group of Occupying Soviet Forces in Germany, then was transferred to the West Siberian Military District , where he was appointed deputy head of advanced training courses for officers. The rank of colonel was sacked. He lived in Smolensk, died in 1971, was buried in the Alley of Honor of the New Cemetery of Smolensk [1] .
He was awarded the Order of Lenin (1945), three Orders of the Red Banner (1921, 1944, 1944), the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree (07.29.1944), medals "XX years of the Red Army" (1938), "For the Defense of Leningrad" (1942) ), “For the Liberation of Warsaw” (1945), “For the Victory over Germany” (1945), “30 years of the Soviet Army and Navy” (1948), the Polish medal “For Warsaw 1939-1945” and other medals [1] .
