Background

After the flood from the Caspian (according to another version from Greece or from the lands west of Ireland), Partolon poppy Sera arrived with the wife Delgnat in Ireland . His sons arrived with him: Slange poppy Partalon , Laiglinne poppy Partolon and Rudraige poppy Partolon with their wives - Nerba, Kokhba and Kerbnad. According to Jeffrey Keating, two hundred years before Partolon, Fomora arrived in Ireland, led by King Kihol Grikenkosahom pop Gaul , the grandson of Garba (or Kikol Grikenkskhom) who lived in Ireland, engaged in hunting and fishing . Fomors were monstrous in appearance and possessed tremendous power. Many of them lacked arms or legs. Kihol's mother was Lot , Queen Fomorov, she had eyes on her back, her huge lips hung on her chest, and her power exceeded that of an entire army. [1] According to the “ Annals of the Four Masters, ” Keehol and his mother arrived in Ireland under Partolon.

Ten years after the arrival of Partolon, a battle took place between them, the first in the history of Ireland. According to the “Annals of the Four Masters,” the battle took place in 2530 from the Creation of the World (2760 BC). [2] According to the " Book of Captures of Ireland " the battle took place in 2618 from the Creation of the world, ten years after the arrival of Partolon. [1] In the History of Ireland , by Jeffrey Keating, a battle is mentioned, but no date is given. [3]

Battle Progress

Kihol Grikenkosakh collected, according to the “Book of Captures” of three hundred Fomorov, according to the “Annals of the Four Masters” there were eight hundred. The troops converged on the plain of Mag Ita, which was cleared under Partolon. The battle lasted seven days. The earliest editions of the Book of the Captures of Ireland and the Annals of the Four Masters say that Partolon won this battle and all the Fomors were killed along with their king. According to later versions of The Book of Captures, in the battle no one was killed or wounded, as it was carried out with the help of witchcraft . [four]

Battle Localization

The Irish scientist John O'Donovan, in the notes to his publication and translation of “The Annals of the Four Masters,” suggests that the plain of It Mag was located along the Finn River, in Donegal County . [5] Another researcher, Stuart McAllister , adds that plains of the same name are also found in Wicklow County, south of Arklow . [6]
