Publications
First published at the beginning of 1887 under the title " Ganges Stranglers" in the appendix to the journal Il Telegrafo . In 1895, the novel was released as a separate publication under the modern name of Genoese publisher Antonio Donot.
Story
The novel takes place in 1857 in British India . Here, in the dangerous Dark Jungle, the Tremal Nike hunter decides to build his house. For several years he lives quietly away from the world, until strange things begin to happen in the jungle. With his faithful servant Kammamuri, the hero goes deep into the jungle [1] .
One evening, Tremal Nike among the bushes of moussands met a beautiful girl. Between the young people kindled love. But the girl lived in the dungeons of Raimangal, where the sectarians took refuge from the Bengal government and made human sacrifices to their deity ... [2]
