Church of St. Luke , also known as the Old Brick Church ( Eng. Saint Luke's Church / Old Brick Church ) - a church in the city of Smithfield ( Virginia ).
The first mention of the temple dates back to 1632 [1] . It is the oldest building in 13 states , and it is also the oldest extant US building of English origin. Only the homes of the Pueblo Indians and the structures of some Spanish missions are older than [2] . In the 1680s, the building was completed. The church is built of red brick , has one hall measuring 20 x 9 m. The masonry is made in the Flemish style , the wall thickness can reach 90 cm. The tower completes the eastern facade. Most of the elements of the church are made in the late Gothic style . The church has an old cemetery [3] .
The church is still considered valid. It hosts Sunday services several times a year, as well as weddings [4] .
On October 9, 1960, the church was given the status of the US National Historic Monument [5] , and on October 15, 1966, it was included in the National Register of Historic Places of the United States .
