History
The group was founded by guitarist Brian Robertson and bassist Jimmy Bane in 1978. Bane, who was fired from Rainbow for drug use, and Robertson, who left Thin Lizzy due to disagreements with the rest of the musicians, met in London in the summer of 1978. At that time, both had financial difficulties and decided to create a group. The first roster also included Jimmy McCullough and Kenny Jones. The musicians took the name Wild Horses in honor of the Rolling Stones song of the same name . [1] However, the lineup turned out to be unstable, Jones, who joined The Who to replace the deceased Keith Moon , was replaced by Dixie Lee, and guitarist and keyboard player Neil Carter took the place of McCullough. [2] After the first performances, Dixie Lee was replaced by Clive Edwards, according to Neil Carter, this was due to differences in views on music. [3] With the advent of Edwards, the first stable composition of the group formed. In the summer of 1979, Wild Horses perform at the rock festival in Reading . Thanks to this, they manage to conclude a contract with the EMI label. Musicians begin recording their debut album with Trevor Rebin . Prior to the release of the album, the group released several singles, but they did not get on the charts, although they were positively accepted by critics. [1] Debut album, straightforwardly titled Wild Horses [approx. 1] was released on April 14, 1980. He received generally positive reviews from critics and finished 38th on the UK chart. [four]
In August 1980, Carter leaves Wild Horses to join the UFO and John Lockton takes his place. In May 1981, the next album, Stand Your Ground, was released . Unlike its predecessor, the album does not appear on the charts. Already during the recording of the album, disagreements arise between Bane and Robertson, which leads to the departure of the latter. The band also loses drummer Clive Edwards. The remaining Bane and Lokton are trying to breathe life into a decaying band by inviting drummer Frank Nun, as well as guitarist Lawrence Archer and vocalist Ruben Archer. The group gives several performances in the London club Marquee and then finally breaks up. [2]
