Biography
During the November uprising of 1830, Rufin Petrovsky participated in the battle near Ostroleka and the defense of Warsaw . In 1833-1835 he was a member of the Polish Democratic Society . In 1843 he participated in the organization of a conspiracy in Kamenetz-Podolsky . He was captured and sent to a Kiev prison, then sentenced to hard labor near Omsk . In 1846, he fled from hard labor through Solikamsk and Veliky Ustyug to Arkhangelsk , from where he moved to St. Petersburg . Then, through Riga, he moved to Koenigsberg and then to France .
Since 1851, Rufin Petrovsky taught at Polish schools in France. During the Crimean War, on behalf of Adam Jerzy Czartoryski formed a Cossack regiment for the Turkish Sultan.
In 1867 he returned to his homeland. He died on July 20, 1872 in Tarnow and was buried in the Old Cemetery .
Compositions
In 1860-1861, Rufin Petrovsky published memoirs entitled "Pamiętniki z pobytu na Syberyi", which were translated into European languages.
