Biography

He worked in Belarus from 1993 to 2006 . During these years, having generally supported the foundations of Russian-Belarusian integration, he gradually came into conflict with the Belarusian authorities ( 1998 - the first publications on this subject [1] ). The essence of the conflict was as follows:

  • rejection of the authoritarian (from the point of view of Suzdaltsev) regime of A. Lukashenko;
  • criticism of the attempts of the Belarusian authorities to imitate the integration process with Russia;
  • criticism of the purposeful formation in Belarus of a national economic model dependent on Russia;
  • the fight against the long-standing anti-Russian propaganda campaign in the Belarusian media;
  • criticism of the policy of the Belarusian authorities towards the Russian diaspora in Belarus;
  • criticism of the Belarusian foreign policy directed against the interests of the ally of Belarus - Russia.

In March 2006, he was deprived of a residence permit and deported to Russia . He was denied entry to Belarus for 5 years. As representatives of the OVIR told news agencies, “the decision on his deportation indicated the fact that Suzdaltsev poses a threat to the national security of Belarus” [2] . The first citizen of the Russian Federation to become persona non grata in the Republic of Belarus [3] .

He was a member of the expert council of the committee on international affairs of the Council of the Federation of Russia [4] . Member of the expert council of the Committee of the Council of the Federation for the Commonwealth of Independent States [5]

He has published over 7000 articles on the problems of Russian-Belarusian relations, the economy, foreign policy, arms control, the national security strategy, and the foreign and military policy of Russia. As an expert, he gave more than 3001 interviews to leading federal and foreign media (according to statistics from yandex.ru as of May 2013). His works in the field of studying the topic of Russian-Belarusian relations have become classic.

Criticism of Opponents

The publications of Andrei Suzdaltsev cause angry criticism from his opponents. President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko repeatedly quoted Suzdaltsev and spoke impartially about him [6] . The newspaper of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus "Belarusian Military Newspaper" For the Glory of the Motherland "" published a series of critical articles about it [7] . Pavel Yakubovich , editor of the largest government newspaper Belarus Today (formerly Sovetskaya Belorussia), accused Suzdaltsev of being a Russian intelligence officer [8] .
