Mary Beth Peil ( born Mary Beth Peil ; born June 25, 1940 , Davenport , Iowa , USA ) is an American actress and singer , nominated for the Tony Award and winner of three Obie awards [3] . Pale graduated from Northwestern University , where she was educated as a classical opera singer, and in the sixties began her career in the theater [4] .

Pale has played many roles on the stage, both on Broadway and beyond . On screen, she made her debut only in 1992, with a role in the film "The Prince of New York", and then appeared in the series " Law and Order ." She achieved the greatest fame thanks to her role as the grandmother of the heroine Michelle Williams in the series Dawson's Creek , where she starred from 1998 to 2003. Since 2010, she appears in the TV series " Good Wife " [4] .
