Description
Hawaiian names are popular not only in Hawaiian families, but also among other residents of the islands of Hawaii , and in other states of the United States among Hawaiians , especially in such states as California and Utah .
Typically, Hawaiian names do not have a morphological indication of a person’s gender. Their meaning is often symbolic and metaphorical.
The elders came up with a new name for each child, with careful consideration of its meaning. A child could be named after relatives, but usually within the same family. Hawaiians had no surnames.
