Career

Club

A pupil of the Bled club school, played from 2003 to 2007 for the youth team of this club in the championship of Slovenia and from 2005 to 2007 in the first team in the 4th Carinthian League. From 2007 to 2011 he played for Akroni Jesenice, both in the first team (in the Austrian hockey league) and for the youth team in the Slovenian championship. The champion of Slovenia in 2010 and 2011, together with Rock Tichar and Robert Sabolic , formed the most powerful strike team in the club: the players were not more than 22 years old at the beginning of the season. Since May 2011 he has been playing for the Swedish club Södertälje. In 2018, the hockey club Neftekhimik terminated the contract with striker игigi Eglich by mutual agreement of the parties [1] .

Team

As part of the Slovenian team, he participated in the 2010 and 2012 World Championships in the First Division, as well as in the world championships of 2011 and 2013 in the top division. At the 2011 World Cup in Slovakia, he was marked with a puck against the German national team and two assists [2] . At the 2013 World Championships in Sweden and Finland, in six games he scored one goal and one assist. At the 2014 Winter Olympics, he scored two goals against the Russian team, but his team again lost to the Russians with a score of 5: 2 [3] .

Scandals

  • At the 2011 World Cup, Zhiga Eglich had a fight with a Russian national team player Alexei Emelin and broke his face in blood [4] .

Doping

  • At the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, the doping test of the Slovenian striker and Neftekhimik Zhigi Eglich gave a positive result for the banned drug phenoterol [5] . Eglich himself said that he had forgotten to inform before the start of the Olympics in Pyeongchang about his asthma medication as a therapeutic exception [6] [7] , for which he was disqualified for 8 months.
