Biography
Born on May 25, 1916 in the village of Grushevka , now the Apostolovsky district of the Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine .
In 1935 he graduated from a railway technical school, after which he worked as a fireman at the Apostolovo railway station, commandant of a thermal power plant in Nizhny Tagil . In April 1940, Karamushko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . Since June 1941 - on the fronts of World War II. By September 1943, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Karamushko was an assistant platoon commander of the 196th separate reconnaissance of the 112th Rifle Division of the 60th Army of the Central Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On the night of September 22-23, 1943, Karamushko, along with a reconnaissance group, crossed the Dnieper north of Kiev and carried out reconnaissance of the west coast, delivering valuable information to the command. In the area of the village of Yasnogorodka, Vyshgorodsky district, Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR, he participated in repelling counterattacks by German troops [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, Senior Sergeant Pyotr Karamushko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
After the war, Karamushko served in the USSR Navy. In 1947, he graduated from the Higher Military-Political Courses. In 1965, with the rank of captain of the 3rd rank, he retired. He lived in Odessa , worked at the Odessa Institute of Marine Engineers [1] .
He was also awarded the orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
