Power supply of Yekaterinburg is a process of uninterrupted supply of electricity to consumers in the amount necessary for the functioning of the Yekaterinburg agglomeration. Power supply of the city of Yekaterinburg is a complex of engineering structures and processes, conventionally divided into three components:
- Electricity generation (generation);
- Distribution and conversion of electricity (power);
- Electricity (power) consumption.

Power Generation
Power supply to consumers of the Municipal Formation “city of Yekaterinburg” is carried out mainly by obtaining power from generating companies:
- Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC ( Beloyarsk NPP );
- OJSC Enel OGK-5 ( Sredneuralskaya State District Power Station , Reftinskaya State District Power Station) ;
- OGK-1 OJSC ( Verkhnetagilskaya state district power station );
- TGK-9 OJSC (Novo-Sverdlovsk TPP, Sverdlovsk TPP).
- from the CHPPs located in the city under the jurisdiction of Municipal Unitary Enterprise Ekaterinburgenergo and block stations of industrial enterprises
The main suppliers of electric energy are the following power plants with the corresponding installed capacity:
- Sredneuralskaya state district power station - 1601 MW [1] ;
- Novo-Sverdlovsk TPP - 557 MW [2] ;
- Thermal Power Station OJSC Inter-industry Concern Uralmetprom - 75 MW;
- TPP OJSC Turbomotor Plant - 24 MW;
- Yekaterinburg gas turbine power plant - 18 MW.
During the winter maximum load, Ekaterinburg receives about 100-120 MW of electric power from the Beloyarsk NPP via the 220 kV overhead line of the Beloyarsk NPP - Novo-Sverdlovskaya CHPP.
Power Distribution
The municipal entity “the city of Yekaterinburg” is located in the zone of activity of the Production Association Western Electric Networks of the Sverdlovenergo branch of the OJSC Interregional Distribution Grid Company of the Urals and the Ekaterinburg Electric Grid Company OJSC. In the city of Yekaterinburg, 220 kV networks are supply, and 110 kV networks are distribution. Tires of SUGRES , Novo-Sverdlovskaya TPP with voltage of 220 kV and substation “Yuzhnaya” with voltage of 500 kV [3] are power supply centers of 220 kV network, substations “Iskra”, “Kalinovskaya”, “Welding” with voltage of 220 kV - distribution for the network 110 kV. Distribution of power consumption is carried out over a network of 110 kV through:
- 68 substations with a voltage of 110 kV and 35 kV owned by OJSC Ekaterinburg Electric Grid Company;
- 9 110 kV substations belonging to the Production Association of Western Electric Networks of the Sverdlovenergo branch of OAO Interregional Distribution Grid Company of the Urals (Sverdlovenergo OAO IDGC of the Urals );
- other industrial and power supply enterprises.
Power Consumption
Electricity supply to the population of the city of Yekaterinburg is carried out by the company OJSC Yekaterinburgenergosbyt. According to the control measurement of the branch of the System Operator of the Unified Electric System OJSC - “Regional Dispatch Management of the Sverdlovsk Region” dated 12/15/2010, the electrical energy consumption by the city of Yekaterinburg was 1300 MW (in 2004 - 1000 MW). The peculiarity of energy consumption on the territory of the Yekaterinburg city municipality is the high density of electrical loads in the center of the city, many network owners, and increased requirements for the reliability of electricity supply due to the massive multi-storey buildings of the administrative and residential districts of the city.
Development
In order to ensure a high level of reliability of power supply of the city of Yekaterinburg , taking into account the growing level of electrification of the social and housing sectors, the introduction and timely connection of new consumers to power grids, the increase of the reliability category of electrical receivers through the implementation of a 110-220 kV power supply scheme in the Municipality "city Yekaterinburg ” is implementing a strategic project“ Development of urban electric networks ”. This project provides for the construction of substations 220/110 kilovolts, as well as the construction (modernization) of substations 110/10 kilovolts.
