Karasan during Borozdin .

The name of the estate comes from the name of the locality Karasan, Kara-Asan (from the Crimean-Tat. Qara Asan, K'ara Asan ). There is an assumption that the name of the area comes from the Persian Khorasan (province of Persia ) - literally meaning “sunrise, east” and Rayevsky Jr. gave it in memory of his stay in Persia [2] .

History

The area on the seashore, north-east of Partenit, since ancient times known as Kuchuk-Lambat, at the beginning of the XIX century belonged to Lieutenant General and Senator Andrei Mikhailovich Borozdin . After retiring in 1816, Andrei Mikhailovich finally settled on his estate and, in 1820, began laying the park [3] , guided by the recommendations of the directors of the Nikitsky Botanical Garden Nikolai Gartvis and St. Petersburg - Fedor von Fischer . The well-known gardener E. Yu. Libo directly supervised the plantings. In 1839, after marrying Andrei Mikhailovich’s niece, the daughter of his brother Mikhail Mikhailovich Borozdin , Anna Mikhailovna , the estate became owned by General Nikolai Raevsky , whose descendants owned the estate until 1917.

In 1885-1887, a new house in the Neo-Moorish style , known as the Raevsky palace, was built for the son of the general, Mikhail Raevsky , on the site of the former estate by the architect Karl Ashleyman . The main, northern, facade facing the old driveway is decorated with a protruding risalit with a portal and faceted columns; on the second floor level it is decorated with large Moorish windows with stained-glass windows and stucco ornaments. The western facade is decorated with a wooden balcony with slanting bars, on decorated piers-consoles (in the style of the Khan's palace in Bakhchisarai ), the east - with a faceted turret with a dome connected by a gallery with sixteen Moorish windows with a mezzanine (the balcony on the turret was destroyed by the 1927 earthquake). The south (park) facade facing the sea is made in a summer cottage style - balconies decorated with wooden carvings with arches, architraves and delicate openings.

In 1920 the estate was nationalized, and in 1924 the sanatorium "Karasan" was organized in it. The building of the palace currently houses the administrative building of the sanatorium.

The estate park covers an area of 18 hectares, contains 220 species and varieties, mainly exotic (from South America and Africa), shrubs and trees. The main attraction is the largest centuries-old grove of Italian pines on the Black Sea coast [4] .
