The 5th Russian Cup among men’s basketball was held from September 9, 2005 to April 21, 2006 under the auspices of the RBF .

Format
At the first stage (stage 1/64), the teams were territorially divided into 6 groups: 3 groups of 4 teams, 2 groups of 5 teams and one group of 8 teams, which, in turn, was divided into 2 subgroups of 4 each team.
The winners of groups with 5 teams went straight to the 1/16 finals of the competition. 3 winners in groups of 4 teams reached the 1/32 finals, where they played, together with the Ufa team that did not participate in the 1st round, 2 trips to the 1/16 finals. The participants of the group of 8 teams distributed the final places in the group as part of the 1st stage and played one ticket immediately to the 1/16 finals.
Starting from 1/32, all stages of the tournament went through the Olympic system . The teams of the lower divisions began the fight for the trophy from the 1/64 final stage, the Super League A teams from the stages 1/16 and 1/8 of the final (from 1/8 the teams that took places 1 to 4 in last year’s championship entered the fight).
The “Final 4” was held in Khimki from April 19 to 21 in the basketball center of the Moscow region . On April 19 at 16:00 Moscow time, the semifinal match of CSKA - UNICS was held , at 20:00 - Khimki - Dynamo Moscow Region . In the interval between the semi-finals (19:00), the opening ceremony of the tournament took place. April 21 - match for 3rd place (16:00) and final (19:00) [1] .
