The spacecraft "Cosmos-145" refers to dual-use vehicles, which were used both in the interests of science and for solving military-applied tasks

In the course of this experiment, in addition to this, another satellite was launched - Cosmos-97 , launched on November 26, 1965 .

Creation History

In December 1959, the Interdepartmental Scientific and Technical Council for Space Research was created at the USSR Academy of Sciences , headed by Academician M.V. Keldysh , which is charged with developing thematic plans for the creation of spacecraft, issuing key thematic tasks, and coordinating research work and the development of the upper atmosphere and outer space, the preparation of questions of the organization of international cooperation in space research. [2]

The member of the Presidium of the Interdepartmental Scientific and Technical Council for Space Research is approved by MK K. Yangel . In the field of applied tasks of carrying out such work, NII-4 of the USSR Ministry of Defense was entrusted. [2]

In 1962, the spacecraft “ DS-A1 ”, “ DS-P1 ”, “ DS-MT ” and “ DS-MG ” were included in the second-phase launch program of the “ 63C1 ” launch vehicle . [3]

After conducting search design work on the development of a new modification of research satellites, it became obvious that due to the variety of research tasks and the differences between the requirements for the new series, it was almost impossible to develop a device of the same type. [four]

Small space satellite platforms have become an instrumental base for organizing international cooperation in the field of space exploration under the Intercosmos program.

Design Features

The scientific hardware complex of the Cosmos-197 spacecraft included:

  • MG-2 is a two-beam molecular generator operating on the ammonia inverse transition line with quantum numbers j = 2, k = 3. The equipment generates a frequency of 23870.13 MHz with a relative frequency instability of not more than 1.0x10 -11 for a period of 60 minutes; [one]
  • " E-149M " - frequency reference unit;
  • scientific device " E-150M ";
  • resonator thermostatic control unit and MG ammonia tank;
  • " E-155M " - an on-board decimeter range receiver for receiving and converting a signal from ground stations;
  • " E-151 " - on-board radio transmitter;

Spacecraft-197 flight program

Launch

The Cosmos-197 spacecraft was launched on March 3, 1967 by the Cosmos 11K63 launch vehicle from launch pad No. 86/1 of the Kapustin Yar Cosmodrome. [5]

Purpose of Flight

The spacecraft "Cosmos-197" was intended for the following scientific experiments:

  • test of work and measurement of frequency stability of an onboard molecular generator in space flight conditions; [6]
  • measuring the gravitational frequency shift of the onboard molecular generator in order to verify the general theory of relativity ;
  • Obtaining the necessary data for the design of undemanding one-way communication lines.

The customer and director of this scientific experiment was P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences . [one]

Experiment Results

Based on the results of the launches, the possibility of the operation of quantum frequency standards in vacuum , zero gravity and other space flight factors was experimentally confirmed. [7]

Also, during the flight, it was possible to obtain data that allowed us to draw the conclusions necessary for the further design development of on-board molecular generators in order to create industrial designs of widespread use. [7]
