Biography
Yaroslav Ignatievich Kovnatsky was born on May 15, 1919 in the village of Koshelevka (now the Pulinsky district of the Zhytomyr region ) in a peasant family. Ukrainian. He graduated from grade 4 of a rural school in 1933. Before serving in the army, he worked on a collective farm. In the Red Army since 1939. In the battles of World War II - from June 1941.
Kovnatsky Ya. I. in 1941 as part of 121 brigades participated in battles near Moscow , in 1942-1943 as part of 397 infantry divisions participated in battles for Leningrad and the city of Staraya Russa ( Novgorod region ). He was wounded three times, but remained in I'm building.
The sergeant Kovnatsky, commander of the submachine gun guard department, fighting as part of the 112th Guards Rifle Regiment ( 39th Guards Rifle Division , 8th Guards Army ), was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree on October 31, 1944.
Assistant to the platoon commander of the 112th Guards Rifle Regiment ( 39th Guards Rifle Division , 8th Guards Army , 1st Belorussian Front ) Kovnatsky, with the separation of soldiers on January 26, 1945, on the outskirts of the city of Poznan ( Poland ), including the first burst into the enemy’s position, crushed 2 enemy machine guns with grenades, and exterminated up to 10 Nazis. He was wounded, but did not leave the battlefield. On February 25, 1945 he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree.
Kovnatsky loading a 76-mm gun in street battles in Berlin while repelling enemy counterattacks, together with the calculation, destroyed a lot of enemy manpower and military equipment. On June 30, 1945 he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on April 23, 1975, he was re-awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree.
In 1945, the senior sergeant Y. I. Kovnatsky was demobilized by the Guard. He lived in the village of Khreschatoye, Kantemirovsky District, Voronezh Region . Before retiring, he worked on a collective farm.
He died on September 11, 1992.
