Allomerus vogeli (lat.) - a species of South American tree ants subfamily of myrmycin ( Myrmicinae ). Endemic of South America : Brazil ( Amazonas ), Venezuela . Small ants are yellowish-brown in color (body length 2.0–2.3 mm). The length of the head of working individuals is 0.48-0.52 mm (width 0.45-0.49). The length of the males is 4.0-4.5 mm. The length of the head of the males is 0.69-0.71 mm (width - about 0.7 mm). The antennae of the workers are 10–11 segments (males have 13 segments). The scape of the antennae of males is very short (its length is about 0.2 mm) less than the diameter of the eye (0.3 mm). Five-pronged mandibles on the chewing margin. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments ( petiol + postpetiol). The length of the front wings is 3.1-3.4 mm. Found on dicotyledonous plants Myrmidone macrosperma Martius (family Melastomataceae ). The species was described in 1975 by the Brazilian worldmecologist Walter Kempf (W. Kempf, University of Brasilia , Brazil ) and named after Stefan Vogel (Dr. S. Vogel, Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz , Germany ), who collected the type series [1] [2] .
