" Goldbergs " ( eng. The Goldbergs ) - American television series, created by Adam F. Goldberg. The plot focuses on the Goldberg family living in America of the eighties. Wendy McLendon-Covey plays the main role of the imperious and all controlling matriarch of the family [1] . The series was released on ABC in the season 2013-2014 [2] [3] [4] and is broadcast at ten o’clock on Tuesday, after the show “ Agents“ Sch.I.T. ” ” [5] , starting on September 24 [6] . A few weeks before the premiere, ABC posted on the Internet the full version of the pilot episode for online viewing [7] .

Being mediocre in ratings during the first season, in the second series moved from Tuesday to Wednesday, and began to broadcast between “ It Happens and Worse ” and “ American Family ”. This led the sitcom to a huge increase in ratings, in total, according to the results of the year, adding 39 percent from the first season [8] .
On May 11, 2019, the series was extended for the seventh season.

Story
The events of the series take place in "1980 a year" in the town of ( Pennsylvania ). The plot focuses on the Goldberg family. Everyday family and school life brings you back to history: VCRs, music, the movie “ The Karate Boy ” and other artifacts of the era. Children grow up and experience difficulties of age and first love. The series is based on the memoirs and video archive of Adam F. Goldberg himself - the creator of the series, and the narration goes on his behalf.

Production
The series was originally developed for the Fox channel in the 2011-12 season, but the project never received the green light [15] . At the end of August 2012, ABC bought a revised script for the pilot episode from Adam F. Goldberg, titled “How the hell am I normal?”, Which the series conceived on its childhood experience [16] . On December 14, 2012, the channel gave the green light for filming a pilot episode, and Seth Gordon took the place of the director [17] .
Casting for the central roles began in January 2013. On January 11, it was announced that Wendy Maclendon-Covey would play a major role in the pilot [18] [19] . At the end of the month, Jeff Garlin received the role of the husband of the character of Maclendon-Covey [20] , and in mid-February, Oscar nominee George Seagal joined the project in the role of the father of the heroine of Maclendon-Covey [21] . On May 10, 2013, ABC gave the pilot a green light and ordered the shooting of the series for broadcast in the 2013-14 season [2] . On November 1, 2013, the channel extended the series for a full season of twenty-two episodes [22] . On May 8, 2014, the series was extended for the second season [23] , which started on September 24. On May 7, 2015, the series was extended for the third season [24] , which started on September 23, 2015 [25] . March 3, 2016 the series was extended for the fourth season [26] . On May 11, 2017, the series was extended for the fifth and sixth seasons [27] . The premiere of the sixth season took place on September 26, 2018 [28] .
Spin Off
In January 2019, the Goldberg spinoff was launched at ABC. The series was called "Schooled", translated as "trained" or literally "well-trained." In the Russian adaptation on the Paramount Comedy channel, the sitcom went under the name “Old School”. His actions take place in the same city in the 90s, but the main character is Lane Lewis (Barry Goldberg's lover), Mr. Glaskott and Mr. Mellor (physical education teacher). The series tells about the life of students and teachers of the William Penn Academy after the events described in the Goldbergs.
