Biography
He began to play ball hockey in his native Krasnogorsk . He was the top scorer in the history of the team: on his account 332 goals. Yuri spent two seasons in the metropolitan Dynamo , where he twice became the champion of the USSR.
He was involved in the national team of the Soviet Union in ball hockey , in which he became the world champion.
After the end of his playing career in 1985, he worked as a coach in the sports school of Krasnogorsk , in the USSR Ice Hockey Federation (Russia). In 1992, he was appointed Secretary General of the Russian Field Hockey Federation. Later he worked in the "Fund of Sports Veterans" and the "Fund for the Promotion of Sports".
Sibling of two-time Olympic champion Vladimir Petrov .
