Alliance for Aging Research is a non-profit organization based in Washington , DC , which was founded to promote medical research to increase knowledge on human aging . [1] The Alliance also promotes and educates the health sector for its consumers and healthcare providers.

The alliance is managed by a board of directors by a scientific advisory board. Daniel Perry [2] is currently the president of the organization and its general manager.

Policy
Key policy areas include research funding for aging, FDA funding, stem cell research funding, and better health care for older Americans. The Alliance holds congressional briefings to raise awareness of diseases and conditions such as osteoporosis , Alzheimer's disease , and diabetes .
Associations
The Alliance is also included in a number of associations and committees such as: Friends of the National Institute on Aging (NIA), [3] the Alliance for a Stronger FDA, [4] Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research (CAMR), [5] Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease, [6] and the National Coalition on Mental Health and Aging. [7]
White House Conference on Aging.
The alliance participated in a ten-year White House Conference on Aging, helping the president and congress make decisions on aging research on national priorities . [8]
Research Financing Aging Task Force
The alliance collaborates with many patients and human rights organizations on the annual “Task Force” for funding research on aging, the call for action of Congressmen and other national politicians. [9]
ACT-AD Association
ACT-AD (Accelerated Treatment / Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease) is a combination of more than 50 organizations working to accelerate the development of procedures and drugs for Alzheimer's [10]
Programs
The Alliance produces materials focused on healthy aging and chronic diseases , in particular for the baby boomer population. The Alliance has developed resources on the following topics: Macular degeneration , Alzheimer's disease and guardianship, osteoporosis , heart disease, Parkinson's disease , cancer , and others.
The population of baby boomers currently includes about 78 million Americans: 27 million people aged 55 to 62 years old and 51 million people aged 44 to 54 years. [11] This generation reached an average age of 65 in 2011. This accordingly increases the need for healthy aging and the study of chronic diseases. [12]
Silver book
The Alliance also developed a database called The Silver Book , which compiles facts, statistics, graphs, and information from hundreds of sources. A short version of the online database is available in hard copy. There are available data on diabetes, vision loss, neurological diseases , cardiovascular disease , cancer and osteoporosis.
SAGE Crossroads
In 2003, the alliance, in collaboration with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, launched the SAGE Crossroads project. [13] SAGE Crossroads is an online forum for questions on aging. Podcasts on topics such as aging biomarkers , longevity science, and personalized medicine are available for download.
Events
Each year, the alliance holds its bipartisan congressional gala dinner to show how politicians can work together to advance research on aging and celebrate recent achievements. [14]
In 2008, the alliance introduced Eric Fatemi to the Florents S. Mahoney World Changing Award, which is awarded to individuals for his or her contribution to the medical research community. [15] This award is a tribute to Florence S. Mahoney, who played an important role at the founding of the National Institute on Aging [16] .
From 2002-2008, the alliance held “Steadfast to Perfection”, a wine tasting raising funds bringing together individuals and experts from the biotechnology, healthcare, finance, politics and wine communities in order to demonstrate their support for aging research [17] .
In 2012, Alliance President Dan Perry spoke at TEDMED [18] .
April 21, 2012. The Alliance for Aging Research, DC, has appointed Sue Peschin as Chief Executive Officer, Dan Perry as President, and Debbie Zeldow as Executive Director. [19] .
