Biography
Grigory Kolesnikov was born in 1914 in the now defunct village of Slavyanka (located on the territory of the modern Kulundinsky district of the Altai Territory ) into a peasant family. By nationality - Russian. After finishing elementary school and tractor driver courses, he worked on a collective farm.
He was drafted into the Red Army in 1935 . In July 1938 , Kolesnikov participated in battles in the area of Lake Hasan, as the loading gun of the tank of the 118th Rifle Regiment (40th Rifle Division, 1st Primorye Army, Far Eastern Red Banner Front ). Red Army soldier Grigory Kolesnikov in one of the battles participated in four attacks.
July 31, 1938 , on the third day of fighting, his tank was hit. The crew of the combat vehicle fought to the last, continuing to fire at the enemy and not leaving the damaged tank. Then, brutalized Japanese soldiers surrounded the Soviet war machine, doused it with gasoline and set it on fire. The entire crew died the death of the brave, burned alive.
On October 25, 1938, by a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR for the heroism and courage shown in battles with Japanese militarists, Red Army soldier Grigory Yakovlevich Kolesnikov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union . By the same decree, the highest degree of distinction of the USSR was assigned to other members of the heroic crew - tank commander G. S. Kornev and driver-mechanic K. I. Pushkaryov .
