Aleksandr Fedorovich Zhokhov ( July 18 [30], 1840 , Kologrivsky district of Kostroma province - May 21 [ June 2 ] 1872 , St. Petersburg ) is a Russian writer and publicist , from the Kostroma noble family of the Zhokhovs .

He studied at Moscow and Kiev universities . He served in the 1st Department of the Senate . In literature, he developed zemstvo issues, collaborating in "People's Wealth" and "St. Petersburg Gazette"; in addition, he wrote in the Bulletin of Europe (Zemsky results, in 1870 ) and from 1871 in the Week.
Mortally wounded in a duel with E.I. Utin on May 14, 1872 . The reasons for the duel are indicated in the acquittal speech of V. D. Spasovich for Utin in the writings of Spasovich, vol. V, as well as the St. Petersburg Gazette 1872 No. 141 and the article by N. A. Demert in 1872 .
