Biography

Lucia Mendes is the eldest daughter in the family of chemical engineer Antonio Mendes Velasco and Donja Marta Ophelia Perez Mendes. In addition to Lucia, the family had two more sons Carlos Antonio and Jorge Abraham and daughter Marta Minerva. Since childhood, Lucia was a very active child at the age of 8 years old. Lucia is given to study at the Academy of Fine Arts - an educational institution that has released a galaxy of prominent Mexican artists from its walls. A few months later, Lucia passes her first exam. From the age of 9, she begins to broadcast the children's morning program “Larks” on the radio.

But don Antonio dreamed of a different career for his daughter, so Lucia was sent to Pennsylvania to study English philology. Returns from the USA with a diploma of an English teacher and a strong desire to pursue an artistic career. With the unconditional support of her mother, Lucia is taking her first steps in show business . In 1972, Lucia Mendes receives an offer to play in the theater and immediately after the offer, becomes the winner of the contest “The most beautiful face of the year”, announced by the respectable Mexican publication “ Eraldo ”. For his work in the play " There is nothing about sex, since we are innocent, " Lucia Mendes is awarded several awards of theater criticism as the best actress of the year and as the opening of the year. In 1984, Lucia became the first Latin American star to be honored at the Hollywood Wax Museum , and Time magazine calls her "the most outstanding Latin American actress." To this day, Lucia Mendes remains the only Hispanic in this famous museum.

Movie career

Lucia Mendes first appeared in films in 1972 with the popular Mexican actor Valentino Trujillo . But the real success will be brought to her by the second movie role “The Minister and Me ”. At the same time, Lucia appears in small roles on television and in Nescafé commercials. Along with filming in films and telenovelas, Lucia hosts the night show " Maestro Mendes " on television, in which Mexican actors of the first magnitude take part. And in 1980, for the first time in the history of Mexican television, plays the role of a prostitute in the series "Color". At the end of 1984, Lucia received an invitation to star in the telenovela " Nobody but You ." The demonstration of the novel goes simultaneously in Mexico, the USA, several countries of Latin America and Germany. In 1994, she starred in the new series " Marielena ", which became a serious test in her life. Lucia insisted on participating in this project of Telemundo Lucia her husband Pedro. After all, Lucia Mendes is the exclusive actress Televisa , who demanded that Lucia stop shooting. But soon the owner of Televisa allowed her to act in film. The studio didn’t even shoot half the material when the owner of Televisa called Lucia and said that he bought a new company, Univision. She was given the condition: that she quit her job on the TV series Marielena and return to Mexico, or they would never let her act in film again. The success of “Marielena” in the south of the USA was called nothing more than a tantrum: all women, young and old, wore a characteristic red dress and laid their hair in high hairstyles. After the success of Marielena, Lucia Mendes is on the black list of Televisa, it also meant a complete informational vacuum, where Televisa owned 90% of all media. In July 1998, Lucia Mendes returned to the screens, radio and in the hearts of the audience the brightest Mexican star of recent decades.

Singing career

In 1975, Lucia, along with Valentin Trujillo, starred in the film “The Stranger”, where they performed a duet in a Ranchero style called “New Love”. Hearing the manner of performance of Lucia, one of the talented composers Juan Gabriel writes for her the song "I always think of you." The decision to start a singer’s career was not easy, with some pressure from Dona Martha and Juan Gabriel who convinced Lucia that her voice was in full accord with folk songs. When Lucia finally made the decision and performed the rancher, it became clear that a new star had lit up on the Mexican stage.
