Biography
Dimitri Gavriilov [1] Sukhovarov was born on May 30 ( June 12 ), 1904 in the village of Zhakovka, Mogilev province . From the peasants. Belarus [2] .
Dmitry Gavrilovich Sukhovarov graduated from 6 classes. Since 1920, he worked as a student in a private tailoring workshop, and then worked as an apprentice there. In 1925 he worked as a carpenter in a bridge building detachment, to miners in the Donbass .
In the Red Army since 1926, he was called up by the Dribin RVC of the Mogilev region. He graduated from the regimental school of junior commanders at the 33rd Infantry Division of the Belarusian Military District . He was left at school as a foreman. During the service he graduated from the 7th grade in evening school.
Since 1931, a member of the CPSU (b), since 1952 - the Communist Party .
In 1931, Sukhovarov entered the Kiev Military Infantry School . After his graduation, he was appointed company commander. In 1935 he graduated from the Advanced Training Courses for the command staff at the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization of the Red Army . Since August 1939, he commanded a separate tank battalion. A participant in the campaign of the Red Army in Western Ukraine in the autumn of 1939. In 1941 he graduated from the Military-Political Academy .
In the Great Patriotic War from 1941 on the North-Western, Western, Stalingrad, Voronezh, Stepnoy, 1st Ukrainian, Far Eastern fronts, commander of a tank regiment, brigade.
Senior lieutenant Sukhovarov fought the first battle in the Baltic states, with his battalion retreated to Riga with battles. In the spring of 1942, Captain Sukhovarov was appointed commander of the training tank regiment of the North-Western Front, but soon wrote a report requesting his transfer to the active unit. In September 1942 he was appointed chief of the operational department of the headquarters of the tank corps on the Don Front.
At the beginning of 1943 he was appointed commander of the 53rd Tank Regiment, which participated in battles in the Kalach-on-Don region . In June 1943, the Sukhovarov regiment was included in the formed 69th mechanized brigade. In the second half of September 1943, the brigade was transferred to the Voronezh Front. In September, the regiment participated in battles at the Bukrinsky bridgehead , then it was transferred to the Lyutezhsky bridgehead .
On November 5, 1943, the 69th mechanized brigade launched an offensive in the south-west direction, bypassing Kiev from the west, broke through the enemy’s defenses, and, developing the offensive along the eastern bank of the Irpen River, blocked bridges and fords, preventing the enemy from bringing reserves to Kiev. Guard Lieutenant Colonel Sukhovarov at his site skillfully completed the task of blocking the enemy in Kiev. On November 5, 1943, taking the initiative, put two motorized rifle battalions on tanks, tore off the enemy’s defenses and skillfully maneuvered the Kiev - Korosten road, where he captured a large fuel depot. During the day, the regiment cut five roads, cutting off the enemy’s retreat to Zhytomyr , Vorzel and Yasnogorodka. In these battles, the regiment destroyed 23 cannons, 24 machine guns, 4 vehicles with ammunition, near a battalion of soldiers and enemy officers.
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 10, 1944, the Guard, Lieutenant Colonel D. G. Sukhovarov was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
Subsequently, the regiment under the command of Sukhovarov successfully participated in offensive battles in the Zhytomyr-Berdichev and Proskuro-Chernivtsi operations . Sukhovarov was wounded, but remained in service.
In early March 1944, Sukhovarov took command of the 69th mechanized brigade, replacing the deceased brigade commander. Under his command, the brigade successfully fought for the city of Proskurov . At the end of March, he became seriously ill and left for the hospital.
Since September 1944, the Guard Lieutenant Colonel Sukhovarov commander of the 51st Guards Tank Brigade. He commanded a brigade in the battles for the liberation of Poland, at the Sandomierz bridgehead .

Dmitry Gavrilovich Sukhovarov died on March 4, 1982 . He was buried in Kurgan , on the central avenue of the new Ryabkovo cemetery [4] .
