Dolichos [3] , or Kokornik ( lat. Dólichos ) - a genus of climbing plants of the legume family ( Fabaceae ), naturally growing in tropical and subtropical regions of East Africa and Asia.

Perennial creepers up to 3-4 meters long, but can reach more than 10. Inflorescences are formed by multi-flowered tassels. Large self-pollinated flowers can be white, purple and yellow. Two to four seed beans, wide and flattened, with a pointed beak-shaped tip. Seeds of an elliptical shape, flattened and with a hem.
The genus has about 70 species [4] .

Widely known and widespread in the culture, the species previously attributed to the genus Dolichos ( Dolichos lablab ), is now isolated in the oligotypic genus Lablab Adans. called Lablab purpureus ( L. ) Sweet [ syn. Dolichos lablab - lobia , or hyacinth beans , or Egyptian beans ]. It comes from the foothills of Kilimanjaro , from where it penetrated into Egypt and Asia. It is cultivated as an annual food and feed plant. Grown in many countries of Asia, Africa and South America, in the USSR it was cultivated in the Caucasus and Crimea.
