Biography
In 1922 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies . Since 1924, he taught at this Institute, later also at the Military Institute of Foreign Languages and the Higher Diplomatic School of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the USSR . In 1945 - 1955 he headed the Department of History of the Near and Middle East at the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies. Since 1951, a researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies, USSR Academy of Sciences .
He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
Scientific Heritage
The author of more than 120 works.
The book "Arabs, Islam and the Arab Caliphate in the Early Middle Ages" is a fundamental work on the early history of Islam ( it was published in English in 1969 ). Much attention was paid to the study of sectarian movements in Islam ("Muslim sectarianism"), the study of foreign Islamic studies.
He led a lot of pedagogical work.
In his activity, he combined academic studies with journalism.
