Khorgos ( Kazakh. Қорғас ) is a village in the Panfilovsky district of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan . It is part of the Pidzhimsky rural district. It is located about 31 km east of the city of Zharkent , on the right bank of the river of the same name . The KATO code is 195645400 [1] .

Content
History
In 1871 it became part of the Russian Empire , in 1881, the treaty on the Ili region finally left the left bank of the Khorgos River to Russia, then the USSR and Kazakhstan . Since then, the strategically important checkpoint of the Kazakh-Chinese border has been located in the village.
Population
In 1999, the village population was 670 people (324 men and 346 women) [2] . According to the 2009 census , 875 people lived in the village (442 men and 433 women) [2] .
Transport
The transcontinental highway "Western Europe - Western China" passes through the village. To the south-west of the village is the railway station Altynkol .
