He distinguished himself in January 1945 in the battles to destroy the encircled group of German troops in the area of the city of Poznan (now Poland ). The tank company of the 34th Guards Separate Heavy Tank Regiment of Captain V.K. Korneev broke through the enemy’s defenses, went deep behind him, but was itself surrounded. For three days the crew beat off the attack, died on January 27, 1945 on the third day of the battle.

Biography
Born on January 5, 1911 in the village of Sinegubovo, now in the Plavsky district of the Tula region, in a peasant family. Russian Education is incomplete secondary. He worked at the plant, then chairman of the district executive committee in the Vitebsk region [3] .
From 1933 to 1935 he served in the Red Army . In 1938 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses [3] .
With the outbreak of World War II in June 1941, he was again drafted into the army. Member of the CPSU (b) since 1941. Since March 1942 in the army . He fought on the South , South-West , again South, West and 1st Belorussian fronts. He was wounded twice [3] .
In 1943 he graduated from the Higher Officer Armored School [3] .
The commander of the tank company of the 34th Guards Separate Heavy Tank Regiment ( 8th Guards Army , 1st Belorussian Front ) of the Guard Captain V.K. Korneev distinguished himself during the Warsaw-Poznan offensive operation in the battles to liberate the city of Poznan (now Poland ). In the battles to destroy the encircled group of German troops in the area of the fortified city of Poznan, his tank company broke through the enemy’s defenses, went deep behind him, but she was surrounded. On the western outskirts of the village of Schwerzenz [4] (now the city of Swarzedz , Greater Poland Voivodeship , Poznan County , Poland ) the tank of V.K. Korneev was shot down. By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945 “for exemplary fulfillment of command assignments, shown courage and heroism in battles with Nazi invaders,” Vasily Klimovich Korneev was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumous) [3] .
He was buried in the village of Schwerzents ( Swarzedz ) [3] .
