Ordinary Zorka , or Chalkedonian Zorka ( Latin: Lychnis chalcedonica ) - a species of dicotyledonous flowering plants included in the genus Zorka ( Lychnis ) of the family Cloves ( Caryophyllaceae ). According to another classification, refers to the genus Smolevka ( Silene ) in the broadest sense.

Botanical Description
Common Dawn - a perennial rhizome of a herbaceous plant . The stems are erect, low-branched, rigidly pubescent, reaching from 0.5 to 1 m in height.
Basal leaves are scapular. Stem leaves ranging from lanceolate to ovate, up to 12 cm long, hairy on both sides, hairy on the edge and on the middle vein on the underside.
Flowers are collected 10-50 in almost capitate inflorescences at the top of the shoot, almost sessile, 1-1.5 cm in diameter. Calyx tubular, narrow, with a serrated edge. Corolla is usually bright scarlet, less often white or pink, petals deeply divided into two lobes. Stamens equal in length to calyx. 5 pistils , also the same length with a cup.
The fruit is an ovoid box up to 1 cm in diameter, revealing with five wings. Seeds are bean-shaped, red-brown.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Range
The natural habitat of the common dawn is the European part of Russia and neighboring states.
Dawn has long been grown as an ornamental garden plant in Europe and North America , where it often runs wild.
