Torneo de la Union de Rugby de Buenos Aires ( Spanish Torneo de la Unión de Rugby de Buenos Aires ), Torneo de la URBA is the Argentinean annual rugby-15 tournament held among clubs in Buenos Aires and nearby settlements. Along with the Torneo del Interior , the championship of the provincial teams, Torneo de la URBA is a kind of qualifying stage for the Nacional de Clubes Tournament, in which the strongest club of the country is determined. Since 2013, seven strongest clubs of Tornio de la URBA are allowed to participate in the National; there they compete with the nine best teams from other regions [1] . In addition, Argentina hosts a championship among national teams of the country's regions - Campeonato Argentino .

The first season of Torneo took place in 1899 [2] . Then the championship was held under the name "River Plate Rugby Championship", and four clubs fought for the main prize of the tournament: BAFC, Belgrano , Lomas and Rosario . The first president of the championship was elected Leslie Corrie Smith [2] . In the same year, the Cup for clubs of Buenos Aires was launched, and Lomas became its winner. Thus, the tournament is the oldest rugby competition in South America and one of the oldest in the world. In 1995, the Buenos Aires Rugby Union was created, and the tournament received its present name [3] . Now the capital championship is the largest rugby tournament in Argentina. Torneo has 82 clubs, 24 of which play in the top division.

Participation in the championship is available for any team from the capital or its suburbs. In addition, the club " Rosario " was invited to participate in the tournament, as its representatives stood at the origins of the River Plate championship. Rosario is the only provincial club serving in Tornio.
There are 24 clubs in the top and second divisions of the championship, in the third there are 16 participants, while 18 teams compete for the title of the fourth. The teams of the highest league are divided into two zones by geography. Each of the participants holds 11 matches with rivals from his zone, while the regular season is held in one round (the opponents meet only once). Then the best clubs of both zones fall into the next stage - “Top 14” [4] . The remaining 10 teams compete with the teams of the second league for the right to continue to perform at the highest level. Top 14 runs for 13 rounds, also in a one-round system. 4 strongest clubs of the season go to the semifinals of the championship - the first team meets the fourth, and the second competes with the third. Both semi-final matches take place on one weekend on neutral fields. The championship finals are usually held a week later.
Seven strongest clubs of the championship become participants of the Nacional de Clubes Tournament, in which the title of the strongest team of Argentina is played. The other nine Nacional participants are from the rest of the Argentine provinces [1] .
