Botanical Description
Tall, bare, herbaceous plants. The leaves are opposite, serrated.
Flowers are collected in thick ears or brushes. Calyx is five - parted, with narrow or widely rounded lobes. Corolla is two-lipped, with a rather long, swollen tube; upper lip is convex, straight, notched or short-split, lower protruding, three-lobed, with rounded lobes. Four stamens , two-strong, not prominent; hair duster; staminode filamentous, simple column.
Fruit - polyspermous box ; winged seeds .
