Pasiene ( Latvian: Pasiene , in the old days Posinj [1] or Posin ) - a settlement in the south-eastern part of Latvia , the administrative center of the Pasien parish of the Zilupsk region .

Until July 1, 2009, it was part of the Ludza district .
The village is located on the left bank of the Zilupe River near the P52 highway. The distance to the city of Zilupe is 12 km, to Ludza - 45 km [2] , to Riga - 314 km.
According to data for 2017, 312 people lived in the village [3] .
Content
History
The settlement arose on the territory of the former Posin Manor (Posin). In written sources mentioned from the XVI century. In the XVII century, after the construction of the church and the Dominican monastery (closed in 1832), it was one of the important centers for strengthening the position of Catholicism in the region.
In Soviet times, the village was the center of the Pasien village council of the Ludza district . In the village was located the central estate of the state farm "Pasien" [2] .
In the village there is the administration building of Pasien volost, two shops, an elementary school, a library, a People’s House (House of Culture), the Roman Catholic Church of St. Dominic , an outpatient clinic, a post office [4] .
