Biography
Early years and education
Mason was born and raised in the suburbs of Pittsburgh Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania [1] .
In 1999 he graduated from the Mt. Lebanon High School. In the graduation school album, Mason was named the school's most original student. For example, he somehow vowed to eat only pizza for a month, tried to walk barefoot for a week, and in order to deceive adults, he cut off the soles of sneakers.
Mason was engaged in entrepreneurship at school. So, he bought in bulk at Costco cupcakes and sweets, which he then sold in the school cafeteria. In contrast to the successful trading business, the computer repair service, which Mason organized with a friend, turned out to be a commercial failure — friends had many ambitions, but little experience and knowledge [2] .
In 2003, Andrew Mason graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in music. At first he entered the technical specialty - codes for Internet sites Mason wrote as a teenager - then he changed the faculty [2] . He then worked in web design at Echo Global Logistics, a Chicago-based entrepreneur Eric Lefkofsky.
Leaving his job with Lefkofsky, Mason entered the University of Chicago , Harris School of Government Policy, where he was granted a scholarship. However, he quit studying in three months. Mason also trained at the well-known Chicago-based electrical audio recording studio, led by chief recording engineer Steve Albini [3] .
Career
In 2006, Andrew Mason got a job as a developer at InnerWorkings, a company founded by Leifkofsky [1] [4] [5] .
In 2007, using investment Lefkowski, Mason launched his first web platform, The Point [1] . The idea of the title came from the book of Malcolm Gladwell. The turning point . The bottom line was that people could agree on joint activities on the site. Commercial success site did not have.
In 2008, Andrew Mason presented to the public Groupon - consumers united in groups for discounts. The idea was successful, and Mason became a billionaire [6] .

On December 18, 2012, the cable channel CNBC called Mason "The Worst Leader of the Year" [8] .
On February 28, 2013, Andrew Mason was fired from Groupon. Eric Lefkowski, one of the co-founders of the company, on behalf of the board of directors thanked Mason for “leadership, creativity and dedication to the interests of Groupon”. Groupon will continue to pay the former CEO a salary for six months. The same term, he will be able to use medical insurance and other benefits. Since Andrew Mason earned only $ 756.72 a year, the amount will not be too burdensome [9] .
After leaving the company, Mason will retain his share of voting shares (20%), but will leave the board of directors [10] .
Personal Life
Mason is married to pop folk singer Jenny Gillespie ( Eng. Jenny Gillespie ) [11] .
