Gameplay
According to the developers, one of the key changes to the gameplay is the modernization of the trading process, which can occur both between cities of one power and between different civilizations, including city-states . If before the cities were simply connected by trade routes, from which the states received gold, then in addition to this, a special unit appears - “ caravan ” (sea version - “cargo ship”). It can automatically move between cities close to each other, depending on the player’s decision. An enemy unit can interrupt the trading route on any cell of it, no matter where in the trading route the unit is at that time; after this, the trading unit will have to be re-created. The supplement makes it possible to send gold, food, science and religion points to the desired city. The simultaneous number of trade routes for each power is limited by the level of its technical development and increases through the construction of some wonders of the world.
In addition, under certain conditions, one of the players creates a “world congress”, with the help of which civilizations are able to exert a greater influence on each other than in previous versions of the game. Congress for a certain period of time is led by two civilizations - the state that hosts the congress, and the state with the largest number of residents in it. These civilizations can propose resolutions, and other states can only vote on them. Resolutions can make changes to the gameplay, such as: imposing sanctions on any state, organizing the creation of a world project (for example, the World Exhibition). In the later stages of the game, the World Congress will be transformed into the UN, replacing a similar wonder of the world of past versions of the game. The powers choose the world leader, and the victorious country wins a diplomatic victory.
Significant changes have been made in achieving cultural victory. Along with the indicator “culture” there is an indicator “tourism”. Culture, unlike previous versions of the game, is used only to deter cultural pressure from other civilizations, and tourism plays an active role. It accumulates mainly with the help of “masterpieces” - products of the activities of great writers, great artists, great musicians and archaeologists. When creating a next masterpiece by a great man, a quote from a book, an excerpt from a play or a photograph of a picture appears on the screen, depending on the type of activity of the great man who created the masterpiece. Masterpieces are stored in cultural buildings, such as an amphitheater , a "museum", various wonders of the world. To achieve a cultural victory, it is necessary to make your culture fashionable in all civilizations through tourism. An indicator of tourism is added by open border agreements, as well as trade routes. Also, technology "archeology" is added to the game, according to the study of which a new type of resources appears on the map - archaeological sites . When excavated by a unit archaeologist, they turn (optionally) into historical monuments (a special improvement in the land, giving an increase to culture) or antiquities (masterpieces that give an increase to tourism).
Another major innovation was “ideology” - a special category of public institutions. Three types of ideology are available - “order”, “freedom” and “autocracy”. The adoption of one or another ideology can significantly facilitate the victory, for example, ideologies of "order" accelerate the construction of the spacecraft, and "autocracy" - significantly improve the combat performance of units.
From now on, Christianity is represented in the game by three faiths : Catholicism , Protestantism and Orthodoxy [3] .
Brave New World adds 9 new civilizations (leaders) to the game: Poland ( Casimir III ), Brazil ( Pedro II ), Assyria ( Ashurbanipal ), Portugal ( Maria I ), Zulus ( Chaka ), Venice ( Enrico Dandolo ), Indonesia ( Gaja) Mada ), Morocco ( Ahmad al-Mansour ) and Shoshone ( Pocatello ). The game features updated civilization France [4] . Also, new public institutions are added to the game, closely related to innovations in the gameplay [1] [5] . Complete with the addition are two new scenarios. In addition to the aforementioned caravan and merchant ship, two new combat units of the late stages of the game were added - the XCOM group , which is an upgrade for paratroopers (an Easter egg for another Firaxis game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown ), and the bazooka - the modernization of the machine gun company. A new technology has appeared - the Internet , and new buildings - the airport , which allows units to move between cities in one turn, regardless of their distance from each other, a caravanserai and a hotel [3] .
