The stadium is located in the southeast of Jeddah, located between the University of King Abdulaziz and the industrial areas of the city. From the east, it faces the Jeddah Mecca Motorway.
The stadium was built in 1970 with a capacity of about 23,000 spectators, as part of the municipal sports complex. It also included an indoor arena and a water sports center.
The stadium consists of two main stands. The covered western one is fully equipped with seats, it includes a VIP-box and commentator booths in its central part. The eastern platform in the form of an arch is open, its edges bend along the treadmills. The only large scoreboard is placed at the northern end of the eastern stand.
