Biography

From the kind of kings of Imereti. Father - George (1778-1807), grandson of King Solomon the Great . Mother - Princess Daredzhan Rostomovna Eristavi-Shervashidze (from the Eristavi-Gurian family). The elder brother is Alexander , the cavalry general and adjutant general .

In 1811, he arrived from Petersburg in the Transcaucasian Territory to St. Petersburg for determination to the Page Corps , from where, at the end of the course, in 1816 he was released, with the rank of cornet , to the Lithuanian Ulan regiment , and in January of the following year he was transferred to the Life Guard Ulansky Regiment . In the ranks of the latter, having reached the rank of captain and commanded a squadron, he took part in the campaign against Turkey in 1828-1829 . Being in many affairs of the campaign, he managed to draw attention to himself by his personal courage and disposition, especially in the reinforced reconnaissance of the 30-thousand army of Pasha Omer-Vrion, which he independently produced, and in the battle at the Kamchik River. With the Order of St. Anne of the 2nd degree and the rank of colonel , received by him for military distinctions, at the end of hostilities he returned with a regiment to St. Petersburg.

Here in 1830, according to the Guard in Poland , the formation of regimental reserves was assigned to him; in 1833 he received the command of the Kurland Ulan regiment and on August 1, 1836 he was promoted to major general , with the appointment to be in cavalry and with the former inspector of all the settled cavalry, Count I. O. Witte . On December 6 of the same year, the prince was appointed commander of the 1st brigade of the 2nd Uhlan division, for whose excellent condition he was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 1st degree in 1837. On December 6, 1837, he was given the command of the Life Guards Grodno Hussar Regiment and exactly one year later he was appointed commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 2nd Light Guards Cavalry Division . The form of further service of the prince is awarded with a number of awards:

  • December 6, 1839 - Order of St. Anne, 1st degree,
  • July 1, 1842 - the Prussian Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd degree with a star ,
  • December 6, 1843 - Order of St. Vladimir 2nd degree .

On September 22, 1845, the prince was appointed commander of the 2nd Light Cavalry Division, but a serious illness led to his demise and prevented him from coming to a new place of ministry. He was buried in the cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery [1] .

Family

The wife (since 1842) is Olga Valerianovna Stroynovskaya (1824–1853), the daughter of senator Count Valerian Venediktovich Stroynovsky (1759–1834) from her marriage to Ekaterina Alexandrovna Butkevich (1800–1867); stepdaughter of Lieutenant General E. A. Zurova . According to a relative, Olga Valeryanovna was one of the best women of her time; outwardly very similar to her father, she, like him, had a firm, bright mind and passionately loved art and literature [2] . She died of consumption in Paris and was buried next to her husband [3] . Left two young sons:

  • Alexander (August 29, 1843 [4] —1880)
  • Dmitry (1846-1885)
