History
Opened on November 6, 1960 as part of the first phase of construction; until 1965 - the final station. Passenger traffic - 2.8 thousand people / day [1] . As of 2011, it is the least loaded station of the Kiev Metro.
Since 2008, the station has the status of “just identified cultural heritage object”, a monument of architecture and urban planning, science and technology, security number - 529/1-Kv [2] .
Description
The station is located near the foot of the steep slope of the right bank of the river. Dnieper . From the station "Dnepr" begins ground section Svyatoshinsko-Brovarsky line.
The first station of the Kiev metro coastal type, ground and open. Side landing platforms are located on the overpass above the embankment. Part of the platform on the second path is located in an arc. The platforms are connected by a staircase with a ground-based vestibule, which is located on the side of the coastal slope and has two exits to the embankment. From the river side, from each platform, there are bridges to the pylons of glass and concrete, in which stairs for disembarking and landing passengers are located (at present, these exits do not work). These pylons also serve as pedestals for two monumental sculptures “Work” (“XX century”) in the form of a worker’s figure (sculptors E. M. Kuntsevich , B. M. Karlovsky ) and “Peace” in the form of a woman with pigeons (sculptors F.A. Kotsyubinsky , K.A. Kuznetsov , I.S. Gorovoy ( ), established in 1965.
A continuation of the overpass is the Metro bridge of arched construction, combined with a motor bridge, built in 1965 . The station, together with the Metro bridge, creates a single architectural ensemble.
Before 1965, the trains arrived from the Arsenalnaya side on the first track, made the passengers disembark on the left platform (if they were facing the Dnieper), which at that time was at the place of the second track, then took the passengers from the right platform and went back to the “ Arsenal ".
From 1960 to 1965, the carriage delivered for the Kiev Metro was transmitted via the Dnepr station. The cars arrived in Kiev by rail at the station Darnitsa . Then they were moved through the connecting branch to the tram line, along which they followed the Dnieper across the Paton Bridge , and then along the embankment to the Dnepr station.
A turntable was mounted under the overpass, designed for 1 car [3] . Reaching this circle, the car turned 90 ° and, once it was just under the station, it climbed up with a special lift. The carriage that reached the station was driven away into the tunnel, and the next one was picked up after it. Similarly, the cars were lowered into the depot for technical inspection and repair. The depot "Dnepr" was located in a small building, to the left of the station ground hall, and was designed for two cars. [4] .
As of 2012, the station has the longest platform length in the Kiev Metro. The traditional length of the platform for Kiev is 100–104 m against 124 m at the Dnepr station. Theoretically, the station is designed for a six-rail train, but in practice no other station on the line will be able to receive it.
