He gained fame thanks to a number of books created in the genre of Speculative fiction at the intersection of science fiction and popular science literature , and devoted to studies of possible ways of the evolution of animals and humans in the future.

Biography
Born May 9, 1947 in the city of Dumfries in Scotland . He received a bachelor of science in geology from the University of St Andrews in 1970 and a master of science in 1972 . He was particularly interested in fossil organisms and evolutionary theory. His dissertation was devoted to paleogeography .
He began to publish in 1973, getting a job in the encyclopedic publishing house as a consultant in geology. In 1978, he was accepted into the state of Blandford Press , where he was the editor of a large number of books on the natural sciences. In 1980 he went to the "free bread", becoming a professional author.
In 1987, he participated in paleontological excavations in Dorset . As a practical geologist in 1995, he took part in an expedition to the Askya volcano in Iceland .
