Narcondam hornbill [2] [3] ( lat. Rhyticeros narcondami ) is a species of rhinoceros . Described by Allan Octavian Hume in 1873 .

Range
The Narcondam hornbill lives exclusively on the small island of Narcondam 120 km east of the Andaman Islands .

The body length of an adult bird is 60–66 cm [4] .
Like other representatives of the genus Rhyticeros , the Narkondamsky rhino has a large and powerful horny beak of orange , pink or red - brown color, the tail is white . Kalao's throat is covered in blue , easily swelling skin . The plumage in females is completely black , in males - red heads and necks .
The species is almost completely fertile .
Guard Status
Security status - EN [1] . Narcondam’s area is small, only 9 km² , but the island is uninhabited and remote from the Andaman archipelago [5] .
The number is quite stable: in 1905 [6] and 1984 . the population was estimated at 200 individuals, today, according to estimates, about 250 adult individuals live on the island (a total of up to 320 birds ) [1] .
