Biography

The early years

Herbert Howry was born in New York , in Manhattan . Mother - Polish Jewess , Tilly (nee Staff), father - Lebanese , Butros Hauri. For the first time Herbert became interested in music at the age of 3 years, when his father brought a gramophone to the house. Then a strong impression on him was made by the composition of Henry Burr “Beautiful Ohio” [2] .

Later, he actively listened to the songs of Rudi Valley , Al Jolson , Irving Kaufman , Ada Jones , Bing Crosby and many others, deciding to become a singer. Herbert also began playing guitar and ukulele [3] . However, he managed to attract public attention only in the early 50s.

Career

In an early career, Herbert performed in a local talent show, where he was very positively received by the public. He experimented a lot with stage names - for example, at different times the singer performed under the pseudonyms Dary Dover, Vernon Castle, Larry Love and Judas Foxglove. However, in the end, he chose the name Tiny Tim ( English Tiny Tim - “Baby Tim”) in honor of the character of the same name by Charles Dickens 's novel “ Christmas Carol ” [3] . The musician began to play in clubs and take part in various concert programs and shows ; his first performances were held at the Page Three lesbian club in Greenwich Village , where he subsequently began to sing regularly [4] .

In the early 60's Tim Tyne could be seen near the Harvard University campus , performing its songs and invariably causing delight of the street public. The image of Tyney Tim at that time was very different from his literary prototype - he was a long-haired, sloppy dressed musician in a cheap suit, who at the same time spoke as a university professor . Taini Tim was actually erudite , and his knowledge of music from the beginning of the 20th century was encyclopedic [5] . He was also fond of collecting gramophone records (78 rpm) and scores , often visiting the music archive of the New York Public Library in search of materials [3] .

Between 1962 and 1966, Tyney Tim recorded several of his compositions, and his first album, God Bless Tiny Tim , was released in 1968 via Reprise Records [1] . Sales of the record in the amount of more than 200,000 copies were due primarily to the success of the cover version of the song “Tip-Toe Through the Tulips” [6] . The album took seventh position on the Billboard 200 chart , and the composition itself entered the top twenty Hot 100 [1] . Tiny Tim's next work titled Tiny Tim's Second Album appeared in 1969 - the musician dedicated this project to his elderly parents [7] . Several times he appeared on the Laugh-In television show and became a frequent guest of Johnny Carson's The Tonight Show. [1] He also performed in shows with Ed Sullivan and Jackie Glisson [3] .

In the same 1969, Tyney Tim released an album of children's songs For All My Little Friends [3] . However, the record failed, after which the musician began to concert more than to work in the studio [6] . In the early 70's, the public’s interest in the work of Tayni Tim began to fade, but the musician continued to tour the United States and gave several commercially successful performances in Las Vegas [6] [3] . When Tyney Tim lost his record deal with Reprise , he founded his own VicTim Records label. He formed the name of the company by combining the name of his wife Vika and his own pseudonym Tim [8] (in this case, the resulting word victim in English means “victim”).

A small upsurge in interest in the work of Taini Tim occurred in the 80s, when a new generation of rock musicians discovered his work [6] . The singer intensified his touring activities, released many albums, some of which he performed cover versions of rock songs, as well as compositions from the Tin Pan Alley era and vaudeville [6]. In the late 80s, he moved to Des Moines , Iowa . Among his 90s works, Rock ’s almost unnoticed heavy metal album contained an interpretation of AC / DC 's Highway to Hell hit. Other records received positive reviews from critics, especially Girl , on which he collaborated with Brave Combo (the disc also included the Beatles song “ Hey, Jude ” in the cha-cha-cha style). Other albums released by Tyne Tim this period are Songs of the Impotent Troubadour , I Love Me and Prisoner of Love . His last work was Tiny Tim's Christmas Album [6] .

Death

Tayne Tim's grave

In September 1996, Tanya Tim had a heart attack while performing at a ukulele festival in Massachusetts [3] . After leaving the hospital, the musician resumed his concert activity, but on November 30 suffered another heart attack in Minneapolis during the performance of the song “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” and died a few hours later [3] .

He was buried at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis , Minnesota , along with his ukulele and six tulips. [9]

Personal life

In 1969, Tyney Tim married his girlfriend Victoria Badding (Victoria Budinger), better known as Miss Vicki (Miss Vicki) from the famous transmission of The Tonight Show Johnny Carson [3] . Their wedding took place live on this show [9] . The daughter Tulip was born in the family, but their life together did not work out - the couple constantly lived apart, and eight years later divorced [3] .

In 1984, Tyney Tim married the 23-year-old Miss Jan, but the marriage broke up a few weeks later [9] . The last time the musician married in 1995. Miss Sue was his chosen one - the couple moved to live in Minneapolis [9] .
